Sitemap Validator
Your XML sitemap tells search engines, and the AI answers built on their indexes, which pages your site has. This check finds your sitemap, confirms it is valid XML, counts the URLs it lists and tests a sample of them.

Check failed
The check didn’t finish.
This usually means one of the following:

How this check works
Find the sitemap
We read the
Sitemap:lines in your robots.txt and also try the usual locations, such as/sitemap.xml.Validate it
We check that each sitemap loads, is well-formed XML, and is either a URL set or a sitemap index. Child sitemaps in an index are read too.
Count and sample URLs
We count the URLs listed and request a small sample of them to catch redirects and broken pages.
The check tests a sample, not every URL. A clean result means the sitemap is readable and the sampled pages load; it doesn’t prove every listed page is fine.
FAQ
Common questions
Do AI systems use XML sitemaps?
Search engines use sitemaps to discover and recrawl pages. AI answers that draw on search indexes, such as Google’s AI Overviews and Microsoft Copilot, can only use pages that have been found and indexed, so a working sitemap helps indirectly.
How many URLs can one sitemap hold?
Up to 50,000 URLs or 50 MB uncompressed per file. Larger sites split their URLs across several sitemaps and list them in a sitemap index.
Should my sitemap be listed in robots.txt?
Yes. A Sitemap: line in robots.txt lets any crawler find it. You should also submit it in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools.
What should a sitemap include?
Only canonical pages you want indexed that load directly with a 200 status: no redirects, broken pages or pages marked noindex. Keep lastmod dates accurate.
