Built for the firms AI isn't finding

CitationOS exists because the shift from Google to AI search is not theoretical — it is already changing how prospective clients find and select professional service firms. And most firms have no idea how they are represented in that new layer of discovery.

Why CitationOS was built

With over a decade in digital marketing, and nine years building Peki.ai — a no-code chatbot platform that helped brands deploy machine learning-powered conversational AI across any channel before ChatGPT or Gemini existed — Kivanc Acikgoz tracked the emergence of Generative Engine Optimization and Answer Engine Optimization as meaningful shifts in how information surfaces online. While the broader industry was still debating whether AI search would matter, one vertical stood out as the highest-stakes test case: professional service firms in competitive legal markets.

The gap was specific. Law firms investing heavily in traditional SEO — Google rankings, backlinks, local listings — were building presence in a channel that prospective clients were increasingly abandoning. When someone asks ChatGPT or Perplexity "who is the best personal injury attorney in Miami," the firm that ranks first on Google is often absent from the AI response entirely. Not because the firm is unknown. Because the signals AI systems use to form recommendations are structurally different from the signals Google uses to rank pages.

No platform existed to measure that gap. CitationOS was built to measure it.

What most firms do not know about their AI representation

AI systems like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity do not retrieve websites. They synthesize interpretations of firms from distributed signals across their training data and retrieval pipelines. A firm can be technically present in those pipelines and still fail to be recommended — because its entity signals are inconsistent, its authority footprint is thin, or its content structure does not match what AI systems need to form a confident recommendation.

"The question is not whether your firm appears in an AI system's knowledge base. The question is whether AI systems have enough consistent, authoritative, structured signal to recommend your firm with confidence when a prospective client asks."

Most firms have never asked that question. CitationOS is built to answer it.

What informs the CitationOS methodology

The Citation Score methodology is built on three intersecting areas of expertise:

Pre-LLM AI product experience. As founder of Peki.ai, Kivanc spent 9 years building a no-code chatbot platform that helped brands publish AI-powered conversational interfaces across any channel — using machine learning technologies before ChatGPT, Gemini, or any large language model existed. This is not theoretical AI familiarity. It is a decade of understanding how AI systems interpret intent, handle ambiguity, and produce outputs that users act on.

Digital marketing intelligence. 10+ years building and measuring digital presence across search, content, and emerging platforms — including the transition from keyword-based to intent-based to AI-mediated discovery.

AI systems analysis. Deep study of how large language models interpret, synthesize, and act on structured and unstructured signals — and what specifically determines whether a firm is included in a recommendation or excluded from one.

Entrepreneurial pattern recognition. Experience across digital marketing, blockchain, and AI has produced a consistent skill: identifying inflection points before markets price them in. The shift from Google to AI search in professional services is one of those inflection points.

How CitationOS operates

CitationOS is a diagnostic and intelligence platform, not an optimization agency. The distinction matters.

Optimization agencies make changes to a firm's presence and claim responsibility for outcomes. CitationOS measures what AI systems currently do with a firm's signals — and provides a structured, evidence-based diagnosis of what prevents selection. What firms do with that diagnosis is their decision.

The platform does not manipulate AI outputs, inject content into training pipelines, or exploit platform mechanics. It observes, measures, and reports. The audit findings are structural — schema, entity clarity, content organization, authority signals — the kind of improvements that make AI systems more accurate, not less.

CitationOS serves senior decision-makers at professional service firms who want to understand their current AI representation before their competitors do.
